YDC LAWSUIT

The Sununu Youth Services Center (formally known as the Youth Development Center) was supposed to be a facility where juveniles charged with a crime would be detained, counseled, and rehabilitated.  Instead, boys and girls were brutalized for decades by State employees whose sole job it was to protect them.

In January, 2020, we filed a class-action lawsuit seeking to hold the State accountable for decades of physical abuse, sexual abuse, solitary confinement, deprivation of education, and civil rights violations.  This lawsuit applies to every person who was ever a resident at any New Hampshire facility, including the Sununu Youth Services Center, YDC, YDSU, ADC, the Tobey School, the State Industrial School, the Reform School, the Anna Philbrook Center, and any and all other juvenile placements, including group homes, foster homes, and out-of-state facilities, no matter how long ago the abuse occurred.  We currently represent almost 1,400 clients who were housed at these facilities and placements between the ages of 7 and 18 between the years of 1960 and 2021. In May of 2021, the Court declined to certify the class.  However, the Court allowed individual lawsuits to be brought against these defendants.  We have now filed almost 1,200 lawsuits and are in the process of filing additional lawsuits on behalf of all of our clients, and we are actively pursuing claims for all of those brave survivors that continue to come forward.
